Vake Park is Tbilisi's most important historic public park. Established in 1946 to commemorate World War II and provide leisure facilities, this grand park has been at the heart of city life for over 60 years. Its original formal Socialist Classical layout and detailing has however been eroded over the decades and it is in need of rejuvenation. We were commissioned by Tbilisi Municipality City Hall to develop a masterplan for Vake Park to sensitively rehabilitate it; creating modern facilities while bringing its striking historic character back to the fore.

We are delighted that the Jodrell Bank Observatory has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site. Meeting in Azerbaijan on 7 July 2019, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee formally recognised the outstanding universal value of Jodrell Bank in the development of modern astronomy. CBA supported many elements of the successful World Heritage Site inscription including the preparation of a Conservation Management Plan. Following nomination, CBA has also advised the University of Manchester on the restoration and conservation of the site's historic Botany Huts.

The £2.7m Cranborne Chase and the Chalke Valley Landscape Partnership Project aims to enable a wide range of people to engage in the conservation and enjoyment of the area's distinctive historic, natural and cultural landscapes. CBA was commissioned by the Partnership to prepare a Landscape Character Assessment that informed the Landscape Conservation Action Plan submitted in support of the successful bid.

CBA is supporting Gleeson Strategic Land and Rydon Homes in the development of a residential scheme on the southern edge of Hailsham in East Sussex. Working in collaboration with Richards Urban Design, CBA helped develop a landscape-led masterplan that responded to the site's sensitive landscape context close to the Pevensey Levels. CBA also supported Devine Homes in the development of a residential scheme for 400 homes at Thanet Way in Whitstable, Kent. Working in collaboration with a team led by Barton Willmore, CBA helped develop a landscape-led masterplan incorporating an extension to the adjacent Duncan Down open space - one of Britain's largest village greens.

CBA was commissioned by Monmouthshire County Council in South East Wales to prepare a Green Infrastructure Strategy to support delivery of the Local Development Plan's policies and the Monmouthshire Well-being Plan. The Strategy aims to maximise the range of benefits that different Green Infrastructure assets can deliver through an integrated approach to managing greenspaces for a range of ecosystem services. CBA was also commissioned by the Council to prepare Supplementary Planning Guidance to support application of Green Infrastructure policies in the Monmouthshire Local Development Plan. The first of its kind in Wales, the award-winning guidance provides practical guidance on embedding Green Infrastructure into the planning process within Monmouthshire, much of which is also applicable for other areas in Wales.

The Royal Horticultural Society, the UK's leading gardening charity dedicated to advancing horticulture and promoting good gardening, is creating the new RHS Garden Bridgewater in Greater Manchester. This will be the fifth RHS Garden and will revive the gardens of the historic 156 acre Worsley New Hall estate to create a stunning new 62 hectare garden near Salford. The first phase is set to open to the public in 2020. CBA has been appointed by the RHS to prepare a Conservation Plan to inform the transformation and future management of RHS Garden Bridgewater.

With a fascinating history spanning more than three centuries, the National Botanical Garden of Georgia is now embarking on an exciting programme to develop the Garden for the future. Its mission is to study, conserve and promote the wise use of plants to improve the quality of life for the people of Georgia. As part of this work, CBA has been commissioned to prepare a Landscape Masterplan to support the achievement of these aims by providing a framework for the holistic, integrated development of the landscape of the Garden, building on its existing special qualities to create a world-class botanical garden.

Formerly the seat of the Berkeley family, the 58 hectare Park is the surviving remains of a country estate easily accessed from the M4 motorway in Hillingdon. Cranford Park offers visitors opportunities to explore attractive parkland, woodland and wildflower meadows, and the wetlands along the River Crane that flows through the park.

CBA was commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset Council, on behalf of the WaterSpace Partnership, to develop a plan for the management of the tow path and parks along the River Avon within the world heritage city of Bath. Dubbed the "Bath River Line", the linear river park runs through the centre of Bath's Enterprise Area where 2,700 new homes are planned and 9,000 new jobs will be created over the next 20 years. The WaterSpace Partnership are seeking to facilitate this growth by managing the anticipated increased use of the riverside tow path and green spaces.

The current Management Plan for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew World Heritage Site highlights the growing issues posed by inappropriate development around the Site. The primary cause of this concern is the development of tall buildings visible from within the Gardens, which have the potential to affect the setting and conservation of the Site's Outstanding Universal Value. In this context, CBA was commissioned to undertake a study to develop an understanding of how the setting of the UNESCO World Heritage Site contributes to its Outstanding Universal Value. The Setting Study aims to inform planning decisions and provide a foundation for policies in the updated Management Plan.

CBA's work is increasingly contributing to raising the importance of landscape in the current debate around public health care, town planning and housing in the UK. As testified by the growing body of evidence, investment in landscape (or green) infrastructure can have a powerful impact on health and wellbeing throughout peoples' lives. In addition to our influential green infrastructure advice for local plans in England and Wales, we have also been exploring how housing development sites can achieve better health outcomes by adopting landscape-led design measures. Our work has focused on two of the largest pilots in NHS England 's Healthy New Towns programme - Northstowe near Cambridge (10,000 homes) and Ebbsfleet in North Kent (15,000 homes).

A new townscape character study prepared by CBA has revealed the distinctive "Metro-land" character of many settlements within Chiltern and South Bucks Districts. Associated with the extension of the Metropolitan Railway from central London in the 1920s and 30s, Metro-land housing was designed to provide a leafy, idyllic rural lifestyle as an escape from the bustle of the capital. Today, these residential areas continue to be valued for their high quality, low density housing. The study, commissioned by Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils, is a key part of the evidence base to inform the allocation of housing sites in the new local plan.

At a meeting in Poland on 9th July 2017, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee awarded World Heritage Site status to the Lake District recognising the area's beauty, farming and the inspiration it had provided to artists and writers. Chris Blandford, President of World Heritage UK and CBA Senior Consultant, described the decision as "fantastic news". CBA was commissioned by the Lake District National Park Partnership to advise on the feasibility of the Lake District World Heritage bid, and also prepared Landscape Guidelines to inform planning and land management decisions in the National Park.

CBA is part of the Atkins/Arups JV tasked with developing options to help enhance the setting of Stonehenge, which includes a 2.9km bored tunnel to remove a large part of the A303 from the World Heritage Site.
