Development Advice & Support

Working with developers and local planning authorities we provide a range of heritage services to support the delivery and management of development in both urban and rural contexts.

We work across a range of sectors and development types including residential and commercial development, tall buildings, renewable energy, infrastructure and visitor facilities.

Our services include:

  • Initial analysis and advice on development proposals and sites

  • Heritage statements to support planning applications

  • Heritage impact assessments and environmental statements for major developments

  • Setting analysis for key sites to guide future development and allocations

  • Listed Building Consent for physical changes to assets and their curtilages; and

  • Scheduled Monument Consent for works

  • Strategic heritage planning studies to inform Local Plan preparation

Our team also provide Expert Witness services for heritage matters. We have a particular track-record in addressing proposals that may affect the setting of important heritage assets, including World Heritage Sites.

We have a long track-record of delivering conservation plans and management plans for important historic places. These have often been prepared to support applications for Lottery funding, or to enable landowners to better realise the potential of their assets.

Our work consistently seeks to balance the physical conservation of an assets, with the celebration of its social history and its long-term continued sustainable use. 

We have a particular reputation for developing bespoke tailored plans that address the particular needs of a site, or their funders. This includes a body of work for living collections.

Enabling visitors to explore and enjoy heritage sites provides opportunities to engage people with our shared past and deliver social and economic benefits for local communities.

Doing this is a manner that safeguards the sites and delivers an outstanding experience is a challenge for all sites, particularly as visitor numbers increase and patterns of visitor behaviour change.
